What is a CBT Course?
A CBT course is an introductory training course provided by DSA approved training centres. The instructors holding the CBT courses have been assessed and approved by the DSA. The CBT course is not a test but a "basic" training course designed to raise the level of skill in new riders.
What does it involve?
A CBT course involves five elements. Each designed to progress onto the next. Each element comprises of individual excecises. All exercises and elements must be completed but the order of these may vary between training schools. These five elements get broken down into "off-road" and "on-road" training, both classroom and practical based.
How long does it take?
Each course is tailored to the individual and progresses at the pace of the student. There is no set time limit. The course continues until the student can display a confident level of skill on the motorcycle in genuine traffic situations.
What can I ride after?
If you are 16 years of age you are entitled to ride upto a 50cc "Moped". Those students aged 17 years or older can ride upto a 125cc motorcycle. Both are entitled to ride manual or automatic machines.
What happens if more training is needed?
If the student does not successfully complete the CBT course in one day additional training may be needed. Any additional training is a continuation of the training course and as such any elements covered in previous training will not need to be re-addressed. Additional fees may apply.
